Module 12: Figure GSK-3β and cardiac hypertrophy



Constitutively active glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) prevents isoprenaline (isoproterenol)-induced hypertrophy.

A. The histological sections reveal that mice expressing a constitutively active glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) suppressed the hypertrophy induced by chronic treatment with isoprenaline (isoproterenol) in the ventricles, but not in the atria. B. This protective effect is clearly evident in this statistical analysis measuring the heart-to-body weight ratios. C. A similar effect of constitutively active GSK-3β was also seen when hypertrophy was induced by thoracic aortic banding (TAB).
