Module 10: Figure phototransduction overview
Organization of the major components of phototransduction.
An important aspect of phototransduction is the way the components of the signalling cascade are organized within the confines of the highly membranous outer segment (see boxed region in Module 10: Figure rod and cone structure). This figure describes the organization found in rods, where much of the transduction takes place on the discs. The organization in the cones is much the same, except that transduction occurs on the invaginations of the plasma membrane. The phototransduction cascade proceeds through a series of discrete steps, as described in the text. An animated version of this figure is available.
