Module 9: Figure regulation of eIF2-α cycling
Regulation of eIF2-α cycling.
The loading of methionine transfer RNA (Met-tRNA) on to messenger RNA (mRNA) is driven by the binding of GTP to the eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF-2α). Once the Met-tRNA is positioned on the AUG start sequence, the GTP is hydrolysed to GDP and eIF-2α is released from the 40S ribosomal subunit. The sequence can be repeated when eIF2B GEF exchanges GDP for GTP.
