Module 7: Figure cardiac Ca2+ kinetics

Kinetics of the ventricular cell Ca2+ transient.

Contraction of the ventricular cell is driven by a brief Ca2+ transient that is generated by the small amount of trigger Ca2+ that flows into the cell and can be measured as an electrical current (ICa). Note that the onset of this ICa precedes the rising phase of the Ca2+ transient, which reaches its peak in 10 ms before returning back to the resting level.
