Module 7: Figure bronchiole-arteriole contraction

Contraction of an airway and arteriole in the mouse lung.

The panels at the top are phase-contrast images showing the airway bronchiole (A) and arteriole (a) used for the measurements of the luminal area. The lower panel illustrates the changes in luminal area in response 1 μM acetylcholine (ACh), 1 μM 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and 100 mM KCl. The four arrows indicate the times when the phase-contrast pictures were taken. Reproduced from Perez and Sanderson (2005a).
