Module 7: Figure astrocyte Ca2+ oscillations



Ca2+ oscillations in astrocytes located within the CA1 region of the hippocampus.

Astrocytes loaded with Calcium Green acetoxymethyl ester (AM) were found to display periodic Ca2+ transients. Cells 1 and 3 (as labelled in the figure) displayed fairly regular oscillations, whereas cell 4 was quiescent throughout the recording period. Note that all of the cells displayed a large Ca2+ transient when the preparation was treated with the metabotropic glutamate receptor agonist 1-aminocyclopentane-trans-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (tACPD).
