Keratinocyte-melanocyte interactions during melanogenesis.
In response to UV irradiation, keratinocytes release stimuli such as α-MSH and SCF that act in a paracrine manner to stimulate melanogenesis by the melanocytes. The sequence of events (1–12) that occur during melanogenesis are described in the text.
