Control of Ca2+ reabsorption by kidney cells.
Transport of Ca2+ across kidney cells occurs through both paracellular and transcellular pathways. The paracellular pathway carries much of the initial reabsorption that occurs across the proximal convoluted tubule, whereas the transcellular pathway is responsible for the final active stage that occurs in the distal convoluted tubules.
