Temporal distribution of cellular oscillators.

Cellular oscillators span a wide temporal range. Membrane oscillators operate in the sub-second range. Cytosolic Ca2+ oscillators have periodicities in the second to minute range. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons oscillate in the 1–2 h range, whereas the circadian clock has a periodicity of approximately 24 h.
