Module 5: Figure mitochondria-associated ER membrane

MAM organization and function.

The endoplasmic reticulum and the mitochondria are functionally linked together at mitochondria-associated ER membrane (MAM) junctions that are held together by the mitofusins. A large number of proteins are located within the MAM such as the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (InsP3Rs), sigma-1 receptor (S-1R), phosphofurin acid cluster sorting protein 2 (PACS2), presenilin-1 (PS1), promyelocytic leukaemia (PML), protein phosphatase PP2a and protein kinase B (PKB)
