Module 3: Figure ryanodine receptor structure



Domain structure of the type 2 ryanodine receptor (RYR2).

RYR2 is a tetramer. In the C-terminal region of each subunit there are transmembrane domains that form the channel by embedding in the membrane. The very large N-terminal region forms a bulbous head that functions as a scaffold to bind a large number of regulatory components. The loops within the lumen interact with junctin and triadin, which also associate with the Ca2+-binding protein calsequestrin.
